What to expect after you fill out the application.....

After we receive your application, we will contact you if your application is approved. We schedule a home visit and a meet and greet with the approved applicant. After the home visit and the meet and greet, we will ask you for a 5 day trial before having you commit to the adoption so you can be sure the dog is a good fit in your household and give you a better idea of what to expect having a new family member. We ask this adoption process because all our rescue dogs came from life threatening situation. We would like to try our best for finding the best matching home for our rescue dogs.

Our Adoption Coordinator, Cynthia Dofton, or other coordinators will contact you after the completed adoption, offering continued support to the adopters. Cynthia has been a partner of DOGzHAUS founder, Yoko Furuno, and is a board member of the rescue. If you have any questions, concerns and issues after the adoption, Cynthia and DOGzHAUS will try our best to find the best way to find a solution. Also, Cynthia would like to hear updates and see how happy you and your new dog are!! The adopter can feel free to contact Cynthia for advice and support.

If you have any questions or would like to respond us, please EMAIL US to info@dogzhaus.org We normally receive 100-150 emails a day and high volume phone calls. Unless it is an emergency call, we may not be able to call you back. Our volunteers work during the day and have a very limited time to visit the shelter, rescue dogs, give the vet treatment, provide a dog training and respond all messages. We try our best to respond your email within 48 hours.

*MUST BE 21: Applicant must be at least 21 years old/head of household *Must be located in California: we need to visit your place at least few times before and after the adoption.

*ADOPTION DONATION & CONTRACT: If approved for adoption of a dog, a minimum and signed adoption aggreement will be required

*This application is long and potentially tedious for some. Please understand that DOGzHAUS founders and volunteers donate not only time, energy, home and finances, but we are emotionally vested in the animals' forever well being. Please note, a collar with ID tag with your phone number, will be required on day of adoption. People are more likely to stop and help a lost dog or cat with a visible ID tag and collar. Please do not feel a micro-chip is sufficient. The unthinkable and unforseen happen: (i.e. front door left open, dog has anxiety due to an unforseen situtaion and chews door frame, window is left open and dog jumps out, robbery, earthquake, gets away from pet sitter, loud noises. Please note: It takes a good 12-36 months to really understand the needs of your best friend and allow their personality to blossom. Please do not take liberties such as going to Petco, Petsmart, allowing the dog off leash in what APPEARS to be an enclosed area, off leash at the lake, beach or park, allowing the dog to sit tied to a post at Starbuck or anywhere, allowing your dog to ride with you in a convertable. etc.....So many things can happen when you don't know the triggers of your best friend. Take the time to teach them YOUR boundaries. Take the time to listen to THEIR boundaries. Take the time to set yourself and your best friend up for success.
